MUST HAVE AIR!!

So I experienced my first overnight train ride last week. I was a little excited because it always looks so cool in the movies. But then I got a little nervous because I was told that Ukrainian trains are a little different and not to get my hopes up. Great....We left Thursday night at about 11pm aboard a train to Kiev. Ya, it was not what I had hoped for. My journal entry:

"'Wow!' and 'Dang it! I'm hot!'--those words pretty much describe my feelings at this moment. I am on my first overnight train ride. Not quite what I expected. For some reason I thought there'd be a window that opened fully. For some reason I thought this would be way cooler...literally and in the slang sense. Dang. It is a little, "cool" slang, I guess, in a way. I'm having a totally new experience, one in which I know I will never forget.....

As I lay here at 2am on my suspended in air, plank bed--that even I am too long for!--I'm listening to Nora Jones hoping some mellow and soothing tunes will help keep my mind off of how much I am sweating. It's not as bad as when I first layed down, though. I got the top bunk thinking I'd get a nice breeze from the slightly (like 2 inches) tipped open window. Alas, I got on the wrong side, so I can only get a slight glimpse of a breeze on occasion. I look over at Kristy and am jealous--a little irritated even. She's getting my ever-so-desired breeze! She'll probably get cold--as she always does--and I will continue to lay here sweating. Yep, I won't forget this first-time experience. Nora's helping a little, though.

I'm so spoiled. That keeps repeating itself over and over in my head. I should have air conditioning. I should have a private room. I should have a smell-free area where I can't see the guy's butt-crack down the aisle. I should have a bed/sheets which I know are perfectly sanitized and soft. I should have a private toilet or at least one that doesn't look like it was just pulled up from under the ocean!...I should have nothing....If this is what I have to suffer for the sake of the Gospel, then I am a Queen, and this train is my palace. Father, continue to remind me of this....Nora is really helping now."
